    it saved my work because in my country there is no support for 1.8 hard drives, and without this gadget i couldn’t take out what was inside my hard drive.

    It does what it is supposed to do.

    Easy to use, a little delicate but that

    is to be expected.

    Many people have old ipods that don’t work but the hard drive is still functioning this little connector allows you to use those harddrives, however it will only work on the ipod generations 1-5 not including ipod classic.

    this connector is small and looks delicate but I think that it will last if you are careful.

    Addonics AAT18IDE25 (Toshiba 1.8″ to 2.5″ IDE connector) is one of the two parts (connectors) we need to recover data files from a Toshiba 1.8 inch IDE (ATA-6 interface; 50 pins) hard drive (Toshiba model# MK8007GAH) pulled from a SONY VGN-TX751P 11″ laptop. It converts 1.8″ to 2.5″ connection – but it will not work for a 2.5″ IDE to USB ext HD enclosure that we have.

    The second part we need is the Addonics AA25IDE35 2.5IN IDE to 3.5IN IDE Hard Drive Adapter Converter Cable – it converts the 2.5″ to 3.5″ connection, thus the desktop computer could read the Toshiba 1.8″ HD (having trouble to “see” the HD in the beginning though – what we did to make it worked were: 1) to put it in a 2nd IDE cable of PC without other device sharing that; and 2) to start the desktop with the “Safe” mode.

    Note:

    1) the first connector AAT18IDE25 from Amazon.com is not able to ship to Canada, we ordered that direct from Addonics website (part $15USD and FedEx shipping $29USD with total $44 USD);

    2) the second connector AA25IDE35 was ordered from Direct Canada website with a much better shipping rate (part $6CND and 1 day Purolator air shipping $10CND with total of $17CND).

    Both connectors are needed to recover data files from the SONY T-series laptop, and it’s highly recommended.

    I bought several of these, unfortunately under repeated use, they become easily damaged as their somewhat fragile and obviously not intended to be used as a converter to rescue data.

    It works flawlessly and is a great product, compact and well made. However due to its small size and multi-layer PC board, its very easy to damage if its handled frequently.

    If you intend to convert a 1.8 disk to use the 44 pin 2.5″ connector, and its for a compact permanent installation, I definitely would give it 5 stars.

    I would recommend a similar product that has a carrier board instead as it makes handling and plugging/unplugging cables or the drive much less likely to get damaged.
